US News: Travel – The 7 Best Brunch Spots in Charleston (Halls Chophouse & High Cotton)

Friday, August 18th, 2017

Halls Chophouse's Sunday Gospel Brunch

Make reservations early (i.e., when you first book your trip) because as soon as the word “brunch” was mentioned, every concierge U.S. News spoke with offered Halls Chophouse's Sunday Gospel Brunch as their top recommendation. The soulful live music from an array of performers, including gospel stalwarts The Plantation Singers, is just part of the appeal.

"Halls has an excellent menu, and is known for their impeccable service, VIP treatment and true Southern hospitality,” says Jess Segall, front office supervisor at the HarbourView Inn.

The gospel brunch is served Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with music until 3 p.m.

High Cotton

If jazz is more your style, High Cotton, a sister restaurant to Halls, also serves up live music during its popular weekend brunch. A tony spot on East Bay Street, High Cotton offers a brunch menu featuring decadent Charleston she-crab soup and fried oysters Florentine, among other standards. Waterfront Park is just a block away, so you can walk off some of that indulgence.

Brunch is served Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
